Open Letter to Barack Obama

An IT Student sent in an essay to the Post Standard detailing what he felt should be addressed by our next President:

Dear President Barack Obama,

As we go in history, we have seen great people, from Gandhi to Martin Luther King Jr. You, elected as president, is another chapter of our history and will always be remembered. I was undecided this election for the fact that you and McCain both could have been great presidents. But you won, so congratulations. I feel you represent all minority groups in some way. To me, you represent my homeland India, because of the fact that you are working with them. I expect you to be not just the first African American president, but the best president.

To me, I feel we should continue the war in the Middle East because we started something and we have to end it. I believe it's too late to end it now. If we do end now, all the soldiers that died for this country would have died for nothing. Universal health care is needed to be supported in which you are doing. Every wealthy country has this except for the USA. I also want to see the US to go on. We are in a recession and our unemployment rate is at its highest. The USA definitely needs change. We should also help not just ourselves, but the world. World Pollution and Global Warming are huge issues. We need an earth friendly environment to see this world to keep going. I can go on and on about what we need, but I believe these are the most important points.

We need a incredible president to turn this around. We need the hope and progress you promised us. Your pleasant smile needs to represent that this country will make a U-turn. At the end, I dream to see our country on the right track.

From an American Citizen,
Sanjeev Kumar
