Mouse Trap Car

Several of the S2S crew are working on putting together a mouse trap car for a science competition coming up soon. The rules state that the car should be powered only by the spring on the mouse trap, and beyond that everything is fair game! Cars get points depending on the distance they travel. Points are also awarded for shorter, lighter cars.

We have done some work in class playing with the formula.

Jakes been doing some 3-D modeling of one idea hes been working on. Take a look:

A Pi Day Celebration!

S2S celebrated Pi day in style today by running the second edition of the Early Bird Cafe. It was far more successful than the first one in terms of both funds raised and organization. We are starting to get the set up done smoothly and as more students and staff hear about it the crowds are growing. So far we've had nothing but positive feedbacks from everyone who has shown up.

As for Pi day, read more about it here.

Follow The Dot

If your eyes follow the movement of the rotating pink dot, the dots will remain only one color, pink.

However if you stare at the black "+" in the centre, the moving dot turns to green.

Now, concentrate on the black "+" in the centre of the picture. After a short period, all the pink dots will slowly disappear, and you will only see only a single green dot rotating.

(click on the picture if the dots dont move)

Its incredible the tricks your brain plays on you. How does a pink dot turn green? How do the others disappear? To me this is a great example of why we cant always believe what we see.

The Early Bird Cafe

It finally happened. After weeks of meetings, discussions about the menu and pricing and how to set it up in a classroom, we are very proud to say it was a massive success.

While we haven't yet achieved a profit, we simply couldn't keep up with the demand at times and ran out of time at the end. Students had to get back to class and we had to save the rest for another day.

We want to thank the teachers for their flexibility and for all the students who showed up to not only buy food but for asking us to run it again.

Plans are in the works for another breakfast in 2 weeks.
